Eco Sensory garden
These three photographs show the completed Eco Sensory Garden at the Sullivan Centre in Cavan Town. The Sullivan Centre is a specialist care centre run by the HSE. The centre cares for patients suffering from the advanced stages of dimentia and Alzheimers. The completion of the Courtyard garden has added a new dimension to lives of the patients who live there and the medical staff who work at the centre. The project was completed in November 2011 and was financed by the HSE, a substantial donation from the Late Harry Sullivan and by fund raising undertaken by the staff of the centre. The Sensory garden wa officially opened in February 2012 by the Lord Mayor of Cavan. The project is a real success story. The garden is enjoyed by patients, visitors, staff and relations of patients.
The Sensory Garden was designed and built to improve the quality of lives of the patients. Fully tuned Outdoor Musical instruments are incorporated into the garden -xylophone and glockenspiel.The gazebo supports a range of musical wind chimes. all plalnters and raised bed gardens are planted with carefully chosen aromatic, non toxic plants. T
All of the raised planters and seating is made from low maintenance Deck25 plastic composite deck boards. Deck25 is also used to deck the internal walkways due to it's low maintenance anti-slip properties.
The perimeter pathways are surfaced with porous "Mixed on site" rubber wetpour Epdm top layer and an SBR base layer. The Wetpour surface will provide substantial protect in the event of a fall.
